A collection of work by artist Andrew Wood.
I am an artist living and working in the beautiful rural county of Dorset. I use what I see around me in the ancient pastoral landscape to provide the scenes and ideas that are the subjects of my paintings and drawings.
The weather is inevitably an important influence, this is England after all. In the long bleak winter months, when it is more productive to work indoors my attention turns to the discipline of still life, studying the natural forms, shapes, textures and patterns of whatever interesting objects catch my eye.
They may be flowers, fruit, vegetables or shells and pebbles from the beach. It's a material world, beautiful and complex, but intractable, indifferent and dumb. With what are essentially sticks with bristles on the ends and preparations of coloured mud I grapple with stubborn reality, to bend it to my will, and with my eyes, my mind and the tools in my hands I strive to create something out of it. A picture!

After much deep thought, troubled soul searching, agonizing mental anguish and sleepless nights, I have finally made the commitment of putting a price on my precious babies.

I am currently working on a new portrait, which is nearing completion.
Now that we are finally enjoying some fine weather I am looking forward to returning to the great outdoors. I will be painting or drawing on the cliff top at Osmington Mills near Weymouth, for the next few weeks.
